For 2,000 years, Christians passionate to share the truth about Jesus with other people have thoughtfully done so through books. The technical term for such persons is apologists—meaning those who give a defense—but we could call them “faith thinkers.” This book profiles 30 “faith thinkers,” 15 from the first through the nineteenth century and 15 from the twentieth century. Each profile, which most readers can read in less than ten minutes, focuses on one of that apologist’s most famous books. From Luke’s book Acts of the Apostles in the first century to Lee Strobel’s The Case for Christ at the end of the twentieth century, you will get a clear overview of the history of Christian apologetics. Becoming familiar with the works of these 30 thinkers will prepare you to participate meaningfully in a 2,000-year-old conversation.
“Christianity has never lacked articulate defenders, but many people today have forgotten their own heritage. Rob Bowman’s book offers readers of all backgrounds an easy point of entry to this deep and vibrant literature. I wish every pastor knew at least this much about the faithful thinkers of past generations!”
Timothy McGrew Professor of Philosophy, Western Michigan University Director, Library of Historical Apologetics
